A Guide to Our New Ski Kits

Kits to reflect to your own creative take on the mountain. Wasatch Range, UT. Photo: Matt Sterbenz (@mattersterbenz)

Equipped with materials that we’ve designed for cutting edge ski performance, we pride ourselves in making versatile, precision-built skis that can handle a wide range of skiers and conditions. As a result, you can easily fine tune the personality of your own setup based on sizing, camber profile, and binding choice.

To take this capability one step further, we put our heads together to come up with five unique gear kits to suit the wide range of approaches our crew takes to backcountry skiing. All five setups have been tested, refined, and vetted by our team of FOW on terrain across the globe.

Deals on each kit are available now in your choice of size, length, and camber profile. Which flavor is for you?

Quick ascents make for many descents! You're a human yo-yo that's dead set on racking as much vert as possible before the sun goes down.

This kit was designed for the minimalists out there who know that less is more (provided enough snacks!). Note that this kit involves an important choice between the Marker Alpinist or Salomon MTN bindings. These two options are comparable in weight, but subtly differ in their design and execution. The Alpinist offers greater stability and power transfer upon descent, while the MTN delivers the best range of accessible heel riser options. As a result, we typically recommend the Alpinist for more aggressive skiers, and the MTN to our most athletic skin track slayers.

The Kit:

  • Your choice of Vital 100 or Intention 110
  • Marker Alpinist OR Salomon MTN Bindings
  • Sight Poles
  • Black Diamond Glidelite Skins
  • Tour hat
  • Tread Light Charge Hard Ski Strap

EXPLORE THE TOO FAST, TOO FURIOUS

Inbounds or out of bounds, mechanized or human-powered, you're not one to let your gear get between you and your big mountain inclinations. The only thing that keeps you from tackling a line is your own self-preservation instinct.

Our very own Matt Sterbenz has been testing this kit out over the start of the season. Matt’s been pairing the kit with a 192cm Reverse Camber Intention 110 and a +1cm mount point and has quickly fallen in love. If you’re big, tall, aggressive, or all of the above, you’ll instantly see why.

The Kit:

  • Your choice of Vital 100 or Intention 110
  • Marker Duke PT Bindings
  • Sight Poles
  • Dakine Poacher 22L Pack
  • Black Diamond Neve Pro Crampon
  • Black Diamond Glidelite Skins
  • MountainFlow Eco Wax

EXPLORE THE DUKE OF ALL TRADES

Your identity changes with the snowpack. You'll play it safe inbounds one day, and then skin deep into the wilderness to your hidden powder stash. Uncertainty is welcome when you're prepped for anything.

This is the optimal 50/50 setup for a diverse range of skiers entering an unpredictable winter. Pair it up with either the Vital 100 or Intention 110 depending on how frequent storms are in your desired terrain, and then use this Swiss army knife to carve your way through whatever the season brings.

The Kit:

  • Your choice of Vital 100 or Intention 110
  • Salomon Shift Bindings
  • Sight Poles
  • Black Diamond Glidelite Skins

EXPLORE THE SHAPESHIFTER

You're up for big tours, hut trips, and the occasional mechanized lap. You believe in all-day efficiency, but ski powerfully on the descent.

More backcountry-focused than the Shapeshifter, this is a highly capable touring setup that makes for easy ascents and lets you open up the throttle on the way down. This kit is the weapon of choice for many of our FOWs here in the Wasatch, who appreciate the Kingpin’s alpine-style heel when powering the ski through variable snow. Use it for human-powered freeskiing, or as a ready-for-anything 70/30 setup.

The Kit:

  • Your choice of Vital 100 or Intention 110
  • Marker Kingpin Bindings
  • Sight Poles
  • Black Diamond Glidelite Skins
  • MountainFlow Eco Wax

EXPLORE THE DO IT ALL

Lucky you. You live in a place where some form of mechanized access gets you to the goods. Lap after lap, smile after smile. Keep 'em coming.

This is the kit that we break out for mechanized laps, and what our ski patroller FOW will take out for a day of good deeds. For all around inbounds use, we’ll often suggest pairing this kit with a cambered ski. Some may still prefer Reverse Camber if the ski will be part of a quiver.

The Kit:

  • Your choice of Vital 100 or Intention 110
  • Marker Griffon Bindings
  • Sight Poles
  • Eco Wax
  • Beanie
