The ultimate spring ski

Vital season has arrived early in BC this year. The reverse camber vital is a highly versatile ski designed for all the conditions you may encounter on a spring trip. I find the reverse camber skis well on firm snow and variable conditions. The nimble natured ski also shreds pow and is built for breaking trail. I brought it to Chile on a volcano trip last September and I was really impressed with how it performed on steep melt freeze slopes.

These spring skis are Vital!

I tried my Vitals out for the first time in June in the remains of the biggest Sierra snowpack in decades. No way I wanted to wait for next season!
I was not the one spring skiing down the mountain in a tutu but I was the one dancing! All I needed to do was to follow the lead of these skis and I could hear the music and find their rhythm. They are super responsive to the slightest adjustment of weight and sliced through the wet snow with great edge hold. They are light to lift but felt stable in every type of snow I encountered.

My Reverse Camber Vital's saved me from a moose!

The key point I'd like to make is that these skis are epic. I credit these skis from saving me from being attacked by a moose so I might be biased but either way these skis can handle it all!! I was taking off my climbing skins when I caught sight of a mama moose and her calf staring at me a stones throw away. She didn't seem threatened by my presence nor displayed signs of aggression as I was moving around but, regardless, I did not want to end my morning with a moose maul. So the moment I tossed my skins in my pack and clipped my heals into my MTN Pure bindings I put the Vitals to good use and had a very speedy and playful descent that, I'd argue, allowed me to avoid getting charged by an moose. When I reached the base the stoke was exceptionally high because I evaded a beast and had a rad ski down.
Besides meeting a moose, most of my tours this spring have typical spring corn. But last week I descended on a refreeze in some slightly sketchy terrain. I was a little skeptical to see how they would handle the ice given the reverse camber presents not as severe an edge control as a cambered ski. However, the 100 underfoot totally made up for the lesser edge and I felt just as comfortable skiing as I do on any other day/conditions! I would absolutely encourage taking the opportunity to ski a reverse camber model because that in combination with the Vital's tip and tail rocker make it a super fun ride! So, overall these skis are, by far, the sickest skis I've ridden.

Love These Skis

Have the reverse in 183. They rip. Everytime I get out, I'm amazed at how these things ski. Can rail super G style turns with confidence. Feel good in GS turns too. Just generally stable at spped. They are nimble when you need them to be. Can shed speed easily. Float super well. They can feel sluggish at slow speeds for some reason, but get them moving and they are a blast. Seriously love these skis. Have them mounted with a Hagan pure 10. Maybe a bit heavy for big days. I've hit 6k on them and felt pretty good, but could see where a light ski could have added an extra lap or two. Hard to say.

The Vitals RIPPP!

I bought a pair of 190 cm Vitals amidst one of the snowiest months of March Utah has seen in quite some time. Since then, these things have seen deep resort storm days, a few backcountry expeditions, and more recently; some spring conditions. The have handled it all. A fun ski that may not be the lightest on th uphill but is more than confident on the way down, which is my preference. Fun, forgiving, and easy to manuever when flat. Engage the edge and she bites! I was honestly surprised at how well it handled such an array of conditions. Could not recommend the skis or the company enough.

OUR COMPONENTS

Algal Core

Algal Core is a vertically laminated composite of biobased high density polyurethane and domestically sourced aspen. This combination reduces weight and offers damping properties otherwise unattainable in solid wood core construction while remaining stable and intuitive to ride. Polyurethane biobased carbon content 41% by ASTM D6866-18 Method B.

Algal Wall

Algal Wall is a biobased cast polyurethane sidewall that protects the Algal Core and delivers better damping than a traditional, petroleum based ABS sidewall. Unlike traditional manufacturing techniques, we use a channel in the outside of the core as a mold for pouring in the liquid sidewall material. This creates a virtually seamless and unbreakable bond with the aspen as the sidewall hardens, increasing the overall structural integrity of the snowboard. This novel manufacturing technique diverts plastic waste from the landfill compared to traditional use of extruded plastic sidewalls. Polyurethane biobased carbon content ~68% by ASTM D6866-18 Method B.

Spiral Plate

Spiral Plate binding insert outperforms our traditional maple inserts in pullout strength testing conducted in house, resulting in better binding screw retention and enabling a more even, longitudinal flexing ski. SpiralMade™ materials are made using waste from our production process in Salt Lake City, diverting materials that would otherwise go straight to the landfill and using them to boost product performance.
